The Acropolis of Lindos was built on a steep rock 116 meters height overlooking the blue Sea and the Lindos city below. The Acropolis is dominated by the massive temple of Athena Lindia, dating from the 4th century and it attained its final form in around 300 BC. The remains also include the Byzantine chapel of Agios Ioannis, large Hellenistic arcade, the Propylaia and the castle of the Knights of Saint John built a huge fortress around the Temple to defend the island from the Ottomans.

A cobbled road leads up and for those who wish to avoid the tiring climb up to the hill there are donkeys station "Lindian taxi" for hire. (at the main entrance of the town and the harbour beach).
